Dear Readers,
In early July, I sat with the candidate for our new faculty adviser–Mrs. Ginny McCarley–in the derelict space of our old office. Most of the papers had been packed away and the doorframe was a cluttered mess of boxes and trash cans. There, we spoke about goals and an idea that seemed outrageously far-fetched: a website.
For the first time in our 70 years of existence, the Owl’s Hoot is welcoming an online presence to our student newspaper.
This addition took months of prior preparation, meetings with administrators and teachers and late nights scratching down thoughts on sticky notes, that now plaster the wall above my desk. When I first entered my position as editor-in-chief, I was put on a plane and flown to Columbia University to represent MUS at the Columbia Scholastic Press Association Summer Journalism Workshop. There, I developed an intense desire to take the necessary steps to achieve an online presence and elevate student journalism at 6191 Park Avenue.
As we enter the coming months, the staff of the Owl’s Hoot is beyond excited to make use of this website. We look forward to inviting new and talented students to our staff and to opening doors for more involvement at MUS. The evolution of our brand will continue and as we release more articles, this website will populate into an excellent news source for MUS students.
I would like to thank Mr. Zach Hansen and the administration for taking this step to further one of the largest pre-professional organizations at MUS. I would also like to thank Mrs. McCarley for your leadership and eagerness to make the Owl’s Hoot phenomenal. I am indebted to you.
Finally, I would like to thank my staff members. I thrive off your collective energy. I look forward to continuing work with you all. Take what we have done in just a short month and apply it throughout the rest of the school year; this should be inspiration for what is possible and a vision for the future.
Sincerely,
Brady Ehrhart
